As children, we facepalmed when we saw pea porridge, sour lentils or bean stew on the menu in the school cafeteria every week. We usually pushed the food from one side of the plate to the other and returned a full tray with a hungry belly. Over time, we began to realize that the school cafeterias meant well.
It is generally known that every meal of the day should contain proteins, carbohydrates, fats and we should not forget about fiber. Sometimes we might not know how to incorporate all these ingredients into a tasty dish. However, if we choose lentils, peas or chickpeas, we are basically safe. For example, a typical portion, i.e. 300 grams of cooked lentils, contains approximately 23 g of protein, 51 g of carbohydrates and 11 g of fiber. It’s enough to supplement a salad with avocado so that we also get healthy fats into the body. Legumes also satisfy us well enough, are a great source of B complex vitamins and contain a number of minerals such as iron, phosphorus and calcium.
You tell yourself, that’s all well and good, but you still remember the taste from the school cafeteria? Don’t worry, we have a solution for you.
